I Walk The Line

Leave it to Janelle Monae and this sculpture outside my office to accurately sum up how I am feeling. Or rather, how I was feeling.

Personally, things are on the up and  up. Not that they were ever on the down and down, but they are good. However work yall... let's just say I am now getting in trouble for doing more work than is in my job description. Why this is a bad thing I will never know, but apparently it is. Alas, let's not ruminate on the bad despite how much we want to.

Let's ruminate on what this means for the future. If you have a job that you don't love and it starts to become something that steals your light, you have to ask yourself, why am I letting this thing steal my light? And there is no answer for that. Or maybe there is and the answer is things like paying rent and bills and for all these Nike pants. But really what all this means is that it's time to push for what we really want in life.

I am pretty sure I know what I want. Quite frankly it scares the heck out of me and I constantly ask myself what the heck I think I am doing... but I know what makes me happy. Running and working out make me happy. They put my brain in a much different space and I am not certified to bring this space to others. I feel like Greg is going to ask me if I am certifiably nuts, but really this post is just a self reminder that I don't need to be in this bad mental space and neither do you. When things are bad, reach for the good. Find the things that make you happy and work damn hard to get there. We can like our jobs. Our jobs can make us happy. We can do things we are passionate about and still pay our bills. Maybe it means buying less Nike apparel, or just buying more of it on EBay, but no one should have the ability to stop us from shining.

End of my rant.
